Referrer Logs Are a Wonderful Thing | February 7, 2004
I love looking through my referrer logs. You always end up finding the most interesting things. Just don't blink, as you may not realise you've left this site.

I wonder if you should let him know that you’ve changed the graphics on your site Andy.
At least he can then be totally up to date.

Andy, been too popular has it’s disadvantage too, the price one has to pay for being linked on all the other great blogs :-p I am kind of hoping he checks his referrer logs too lol. Interesting fact, there is a category law there !

Theres always one cheeky bar steward who’ll just lift a nice site’s design. Have you had words?
Comment
Apparently keeping in the long line of bloggers who’ve had their layouts nicked, eh?
Have any of you guys noticed that the small changes that these people do make nearly always detract from the site rather than add to it?

I think I blinked. _ Hehe, “I never saw this picture before…is this a new section?”

Sorry Andy, seriously, I don’t know whether you should be flattered or get angry.
Comment
That’s surreal. Took me 5 minutes to see what the deal was. I think I’d be pissed if I were you.

He’s lifted your layout lock stock but managed to break it with an image that’s too wide. If you’re gonna steal, you might as well do it right! Shameful.

I think you’ve just got to love the “Copyright 2003 All Rights Reserved” on the bottom right of the page. Interestingly enough, this was also borrowed from you Andy.
Comment
He’s a character alright… he’s also stripped all the required attribution from his Coppermine photo gallery.
Comment
So you found him out through your referral logs? Thats really funny! Dumb as well as theiving…
Comment
Andy, I can’t believe you stole his design! you are a bad person.
Comment
From the comments here, this is just filled with too much irony!
Comment
Isnt there a name for people that surf their stats? I dont feel as geeky now.
Comment
It happened to Todd Dominey too: somebody in Estonia copied his flash website. That wasn’t simply stealing. Here’s the story

Oops… here’s the story

Perhaps they have different attitudes to intellectual property theft in the Eastern Bloc. Last month I found myself looking at my own website clicking a link in my referrer logs too, in the process of being converted to a wine supplier’s site in the Czech Republic. He took it down after I called him out, but I preserved it on my own site so all his ‘hard work’ didn’t go to waste (Jan 8 04 entry, if anyone’s interested).

Guess the guy didn’t like being told he was wrong, eh? He deleted all the comments than people posted about it… Can anybody say “loser”?

“Safari can’t open the page “http://blog.michailov.com/” because it can’t find the server “blog.michailov.com””
Wonder what the new design will be like :-)

Dang, I can’t get to it from either URL. Do you suppose he got spooked and took down the blog entirely?
Comment
I surf my logs all the time. I would be blind without them.
