I went out with a girl once who looked a bit like that!

One of those simple photos where everything just comes together, eh? The angle he’s pitched at (it’s a he, right?), the shadows, the highlight on his shell, the colors, and especially the way he seems to be floating. Cool.

Andy,

You’re site is number two in my bookmarks (right below the link to A List Apart).

I really admire your work.

I haven’t searched your site (feel free to answer RTFM or not answer at all), but can you maybe post about how you go about taking a picture like this one, especially the white background and the light settings.

I don’t have a very nice camera, but I would like to learn to take better pictures like you.

Thanks for all the comments folks. I’m glad everybody is enjoying the pics. I’d like to be posting more web related stuff, but really don’t have the time or inclination at the moment.

Sian: I like the name George, so George it is

Malarkey: Really sorry to hear that mate :-)

Heath: I basically put a sheet of paper on a stool in my bathroom (the daylight streams in there in the afternoon) and used another piece of paper as a reflector to lessen the shadows. I took 5 or 6 pics from different angles and this was the one I liked the best. I like taking macro photos is silly toys, so will post some more up when I get time to do some scanning
