Introducing Clearleft | September 21, 2005

It has been a long time coming, but today I’m pleased to announce the launch of my new company website, clearleft.com.

clearleft-homepage.png

Clearleft is a web design consultancy founded in Brighton, England by myself, Jeremy Keith and Richard Rutter. All having very similar interests and outlooks, we decided that it was time to pool our resources and start working on the kinds of projects we wanted to work on.

We have been hinting at the existence of Clearleft for a while now. The logo made its first public appearance on me and Jeremy’s SXSW05 slides six months ago, albeit without the company name and tag line.

The company itself was soft launched during @media 2005. We didn’t want to make a huge song and dance about our launch, preferring simply to introduce ourselves as Clearleft directors, and adding a link to our holding page on our slides.

We did however hand out a number of our newly printed (ink still wet) business cards, which got a very favourable response. Mostly as it gave people something to read on the train home.

We started building our company site several months ago, however what with client work and book writing commitments, the site has taken a while to perfect. The design actually came about very quickly, but honing the content took the time.

The site is very much in the first stage of development. I actually wanted to add a permanent beta tag to the logo like so many other sites,. However Rich and Jeremy wisely vetoed the idea. Once things have settled down we will be adding case studies, articles, press releases and a new blog.

In the meantime, I’d like to invite you all over to check out our new home. We’d love to hear what you think, so feel free to wander around, check inside the cupboards and let us know what you think of the decor. Just remember to wipe your feet on the way in.

If you like what you see and want to work with us, please feel free to get in touch.

I thought you’d been going for ages until I saw the Brighton New Media post the other day. I guess the “soft launch” worked!

I love the company livery - identifiable (?) but not busy. And, dare I say it, a little Apple-y!

It’s a lovely looking site - and good luck with the company.

Can you share with us why you chose not to have a contact form on your site - just to have phone and email? Just curious … !

Fantastic design, Andy. It’s big, fresh, inviting and just overall wonderful. I love this new big-and-happy looking trend, as opposed to the illegibly-small-and-trashy trend from a few years ago.

Best of luck, I’m going to send this link to my colleagues. Great job guys.

Andy, congrats! It’s great to see a company that focuses solely on standards/access/usability consulting. That is my ultimate dream job…

Best of luck with everything; I will watching and reading the new site with great interest.

I noticed that you printed on both sides of your business card. I found this really useful Business card productivity tip… where you put action information on the back of the card so that whoever gets your card can put notes on the back and remember what you talked about. It’s pretty cool.

It looks like Textile didn’t like the url. The actual url is:

http://www.ericmackonline.com/ica/blogs/emonline.nsf/dx/heres-an-analog-productivity-tip-…

The ending dash and three periods are part of the url.

Hope it goes well for you three, I think starting you’re own web business with all that competition is quite a daunting prospect, but when you are head and shoulders above the majority you have got the best credentials to succeed!

Very Nice - I echo all the comments here… must kick my designers butt and get our website built.

One thing though… Are you sure your 0845 number is internationaly routeable? ie +44 only I have one and I’m pretty sure its not - may depend where you got it from I suppose.

A squeaky clean and beautiful design coupled with a nice flexible layout. Lifting up the hood reveals perfect document structure and the finest use of semantic markup all served up in the name of true accessibility.

Outstanding.

Congratulations and best wishes!

Great looking site. My only complaint is that the left menu shifts according to the length of the testimonial.

Best of luck!

That’s a nifty idea to put your firm description on your business card. I’m gonna do that myself if you don’t mind :)

Yeah, It is a great looking website.

It definitely shows how much efforts have been put into that.

but as David mentioned, I also would like you to have a contact form, and I dont think anyone will download and fill up a rtf document, before talking to you.

Good luck !

Very clean and fresh Andy and the content explains your business well.
One reservation…. for me, the peeling Elastoplast is a turn-off.
I’m so glad that the proposal to call the business’table:draw’ was thrown out early in the concept stage ;-)

The launch of this site came just a few days before I finished my latest project, which just so happened to be a gallery of attractive liquid designs. I like clearleft.com so much I put it there.

I think clearleft.com sets a great example for web designers. I just wish there were more sites like it.

I look forward to seeing a redesign of this blog too. Impress us!
