I want a copy of CSS Mastery: Advanced Web Standards Solutions because… I’ve never really won anything in my life before. When I did the EuroMillions the other week I bought 4 tickets, and I didn’t even get a single number. Talk about your bad luck. I forever seem to have bad luck. My mum told be one day I’ll be happy but first you must lose everything to have everything. I asked her what she meant, but she said “you’ll see”. So I waited and I waited. Then one night it came to me in a dream.

I had lost everything, I was walking naked through the town square, I had lost everything. I was homeless. I stumbled upon a book called “CSS Mastery: Advanced Web Standards Solutions”. I ran into a corner, so nobody could take it from me. I read it cover to cover. After I had read it all I truly understood what my mother meant.

I then woke up to find to my surprise I had received a package in the mail a copy of CSS Mastery: Advanced Web Standards Solutions, finally I had won something.

It wasn’t until I learned all the solos to ‘I believe in a thing called love’ by The Darkness, that I began to further improve my skills.

This book is, for me, ‘I believe in a thing called CSS’. Without it, my progress will forever be hindered.

But I’ll have you know, if you don’t give it to me, I’m going to buy it anyways… wait. That doesn’t make me sound desperate enough, does it?

Ok ok…if you dont’ give me one, I’m going to jump off a bridge.

I would like a copy of CSS Mastery because… I work at a newspaper website where the staff believes: 1-Tables inside tables are they way to design everything or 2-Flash should be used for anything visually creative. This year, with our site redesign, I will wage my battle to build with CSS and try to get near WC3-standard compliance. And I figure a sturdy book might help beat sense into people’s heads. … The stuff inside the book could help too.

I downloaded the sample chapter last week and was amazed by it. Not only by the sheer genius of the writing, but I also happened to be struggling with a layout issue for a client’s site at that very time. The chapter solved my problem for me. If that one chapter made me a better designer, I can hardly imagine what having the entire book would do.

After signing up to win a copy at collylogic and losing, I JUST THIS SECOND ordered one from amazon.com, but would still like to spread the joy to my very dear friend who is ever so patient with my CSS attempts.

You see, she’s in Australia and I’m in Thailand and it would be nice to be on the same page for a change.

Sort of to help her out, you know?

Bless her, she sometimes has a real hard time of it.

I remember once when I said “oh, PHP sounds a lovely thing to learn” and her reply was “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”

I guess by now you’ve realised that I’ve already come to the apt assumption that I won’t win anything as I never do so have nixed the idea of keeping to your 30.

I really just wanted to say that I’ve read bits of your book and it seems an excellent read, and wanted to know if you have one coming out for PHP?

I have a few CSS reference/tutorial books thus far, and I’ve made my way through them. However, as fast as this technology is growing it is very easy to get behind the times and lose your edge, as well as your creative outlook (as far as using CSS is concerned). I’m frightened by how many CSS based sites look all too similar and I believe this book just might help me (and others) to break that trend and look at CSS in a more creative manner. I could certainly use that edge.

“I want a copy of CSS Mastery: Advanced Web Standards Solutions because…”

It looks pretty big and thick, and would probably make an enjoyable
thudding noise as it hit the heads of all the people I know that
‘design’ web pages with no care for standards.

If they survived the blow, and came round, they would certainly be
greatful that they had survived, and, given a new sense of clarity and
perspective on life, would desperately seek to right all the wrongs
that now they could see so clearly. Seeing your book on the floor ‘as
if a miracle’ they would surely use it as a bible directing them along
the true ‘standardised path’ to CSS Mastery and enlightenment -
changing their lives forever.

And if they didn’t come round, well I could pick the book up, smear
the blood off and look for my next victim…

Sam Aaron said on February 12, 2006 9:09 PM
