Veggie AustinVeggie Heaven in Austin | March 6, 2007

Any vegetarian, vegan or just plain healthy folks fancy checking out one of the many veggie restaurants in Austin during SXSW? Could be a nice alternative to all that Texas BBQ going around.

I don’t think they let vegetarians into Texas, do they?

Hmm, let me be the first to recommend the bubble tea at Veggie Heaven. It’s fantastic!

I’ve been to Mother’s, and it’s quite good (though a tad crowded in the evening). The patio is well worth the wait.

There is a place called Mother’s that is a bit of a ways out from downtown, but it’s all vegetarian and really good. Oh, just noticed it in your list — it’s great.

I love Veggie Heaven (no ambiance..but the food is delicious). Also think about Chuy’s on Barton Springs…it is fantastic and very veggie friendly.

While this place certainly isn’t vegetarian, I could easily make a dinner out of the fried green tomatoes at Stubbs BBQ.

Bouldin Creek Cafe is another super yummy veggie/vegan spot worth checking out.

I definitely want to take advantage of some of these. I missed out on them last year!

Sweet! Thanks for the list. I’ve been very worried about what the hell I’m going to eat there.

Andy, I believe Mother’s might be closed. They just had a fire this week. :-(

Do add Kerbey Lane Cafe to your list. There is one at 2606 Guadalupe (right next to the UT campus). You will love it!

Magnolia Cafe is another great choice, and both locations are open 24 hours. I couldn’t begin to guess how many 2am breakfasts I’ve had at Magnolia South!

Alas, just seeing this now on the last day of SXSW. I’ve been making the veggie rounds myself. Maybe next year!

Austin, TX is one of the great veggie capitals of the US. A bit odd since it is in Texas, but cool regardless.
