EIMC University Project is amazing.

Right Zelnox, contents of EIMC are really nice.
But I also appreciate “The Beat Surrender“‘s design. It remind me some Zen Garden’s style… Surely I’m wrong.

Hi guys, I’ve been referral’s eavesdropping ;)
You’ll have to forgive some of the code on The Beat Surrender. It was my first attempt at a php/mysql cms and is quite messy “under the bonnet” as a result. It’s on my things to work on list.

Nice work on the Beat Surrender site Jamie. ;)

Andy, where do you get these from? 5 new into the Gallery bookmarks folder!

EIMC University Project is very similar / taken influence from Mode Creative’s website (.com). Copy isnt a nice word so i dont intend on using it.
Team science is my standout favourite, as much as im not a fan of the colour green i do like how the site feels and the whitespace isnt too overpowering.
Comment
Neil you’re right (and thanks for not using the c word), the main infuence for the EIMC site was ModeCreative and it has been noted before now.
It was never honestly meant to be so alike, I guess Lynn’s design was just always in my mind after I saw it. Looking back, if it had been a commercial project it probably wouldn’t have seen the light of day.

I hear you. There is something very simple with mode that works. Thing is, there has to be a time when we all borrow ideas from each other. We all get inspired from something right? There can only be so many ways to display information.

Thanks for the feedback on the teamscience site Neil :) mmm, vodka.
It’s not the best CSS structurally-speaking (in fact in recent Mozilla builds it’s started to get quirky with a few elements), but I was aiming for cleaness & simplicity while placing emphasis on content and judging by your comment it sounds like I achieved that.

You did! My site is currently half and half. Im not 100% sure im going to make the full CSS jump just yet.
Ideally i would like to have my layout built around MT. It would make archiving and such much easier, i simply dont have the time right now.

Nice site you have here Andy. It’s going into my blogroll

All the sites listed are very nice, with many interesting design ideas - well done!
I particularly liked Teamscience, very functional and elegant.
It’s encouraging to see standards actually translate into good Web design, too much of the time standards compliance is the only consideration for some designers.
I was speaking to a Japanese Web designer who told me that standards are not catching on in Japan because aesthetics have a higher importance there, maybe these sites will encourage Japanese designers embrace standards if they see that they don’t need to abandon aesthetics.

one thing that worries me about the EIMC site is how different it looks from the main university of bradford site. sure, it’s slick - and as some have pointed out before, possibly “borrowed” - but doesn’t tie in at all with the Uni’s main CI. heck, at my dayjob - webmaster another UK university - i’m coercing and luring people into using templates and following guidelines (and tightening draconian screws on those who are slow to comply), but this is obviously not happening there…
nevertheless, a nice little roundup of sites, for sure.
Comment
Patrick, the EIMC site was a uni project to redesign the current site - it’s not a live site. I keep meaning to add some javascript to point this out to people who aren’t visiting the site from the link in my portfolio.
Hope that clears it up for you :)

Sorry should also have said that the brief didn’t stipulate the need to associate the design with the main university site.
